Konigsberg Castle

The pictures below are of Castle Konigsberg. Reportedly this fortress was never taken and I have no trouble believing that. It's hard to capture the depth of the features with a small point and shoot camera, but there are steps of land, each of which would be fairly easy to defend. The problem for attackers would be that even if you could take on step, you would now have a problem (delays) of getting your ladders or other weapons up to the next level and would have to repeat that several times before getting to the main fortress which is built into the rocks of the cliff. Obviously with air support you could easily invade it today, but it was one impregnable castle in it's day.

Once inside the fortress there were several impressive features. For instance there is a well that goes down 200 yards to get to the water table. In the middle of all the military features stood a church that was beautiful. Once again, I was a more than a little annoyed with a point and shoot camera that couldn't capture the scenes since I couldn't get back far enough back from most of the buildings to properly capture them.
