Praque, Czechoslavia

During a company trip to Dresden (September 2006) that spanned a weekend, I was able to take a side trip over to Prague (Praha) to see the sights. We took a train between the two cities which took a little over two hours. Then we took a tram from the train station to the station under the museum. The first picture below was taken so that if we got lost we could remember the station to tell a taxi driver.

General impressions of Praha were that it was fairly full of tourists and had a lot of older buildings with really great architecture. What was really unusual was that there were so many religious statues all over town. Many towns may have statues to commemorate their local heros, but seeing sculpture of biblical scenes and saints really struck me as unusual. There was no good way to capture St. Charles bridge on film, but it spans the river and have a religous statue on either side every 50 feet.

The food was good, the people were friendly and most that worked in the shops spoke enough english that it wasn't any problem to make yourself understood. The main problem was that there just isn't enough time in one day to walk through such a beautiful city and begin to appreciate all of the details of all the architecture. In one way that is good because it leaves you with a feeling of longing, awe and appreciation of the culture of these people.
